    Hi
We are thinking of getting a french bulldog , we are a bit worried as we have a yorkie who will be thirteen in October, he is very good for his age and excellent with other dogs.
I was told by my vet and other people that this will give him a new lease of life , but said it would be better to get a female ?
I know a good breeder and have just seen the litter but unfortunately the mother died a little while after giving birth apparently something to do with her heart , also I’ve asked questions regarding any breathing problems and been told they have slightly longer snouts and don’t have any breathing problems.
I would love to have one but obviously want a healthy dog after seeing so many with breathing problems it does concern me and would hate to see the dog suffering.
I would be very grateful for any advice you could give me.
    Many thanks
    Lisa

      Hey Lisa,

It’s always going to be a tricky situation socializing a puppy with another dog at your home – it doesn’t matter what the breed!

You will need to take things slowly and get them used to each other. You will also need to teach the new puppy the rules and make sure they know their place.

In terms of breathing problems, the reality is that Frenchies do have a tendency to have a number of different issues – not just breathing problems. However, most of them are manageable once you know what you are dealing with.

I would ask to speak with some previous Frenchie owners from the breeder and get their thoughts.

My opinion? Frenchies are the BEST, breathing problems or not. I doubt you will regret getting one. Their personalities outshine any minor health issues.
