French Bulldogs, known lovingly as “Frenchies” are a very popular breed of dog.
Frenchies are small dogs with big hearts, a stocky build and upright, rounded ears. They come in a wide range of colors, including pied, fawn, brindle, and grey.
The American Kennel Club (AKC) recognized them as an official breed way back in 1898. Above everything else, Frenchies are sought after for their temperament. Smart, playful and adaptable, these dogs are great companions for everyone.
They have been described by some as “irresistible”, and the AKC ranks them as the 6th most popular dog breed.
Affectionate and Loving
Loving and affectionate, this breed makes a great pet. Dogs, and especially Frenchies, are known for loving their families unconditionally. With a Frenchie, you’ll always have someone waiting for you at the door when you come home.
Since they’re so small, they’ll fit around you comfortably when it’s nap time. If left alone for too long, these dogs experience separation anxiety.
Playful and Lively
Frenchies are known for being playful! This dog will keep you young with its cheerful, lively demeanor. They may not be athletic dogs, but they still love walks.
An easygoing breed, Frenchies are best suited to accompany you on a short jog around the block. They’re also very smart, and can learn tricks with the proper training.
One of the nicknames given to this dog is the “clown dog”, thanks to their fun-loving personalities.
Loyal and Clingy
Little dogs in particular can be very clingy. Frenchies are fiercely loyal, and would (sometimes literally) follow their owner to the ends of the earth. That’s one of the many reasons why these dogs are in such high demand.
They’re also adaptable to nearly every environment. They’ll do well on a farm with acres of land, or in an apartment. The only environment they don’t respond to well is the very cold and very hot, since they are flat faced and can experience breathing issues.
Sociable and Safe
Frenchies are very clever, so they do well in social situations. They’re great with kids, especially since they love to play so much. They’re very sweet and safe to be around.
Frenchies do okay with other dogs, but should be supervised and introduced properly. They are at times stubborn, but respond well to the correct training.
Cuddly and Lazy
The American Kennel Club describes Frenchies as having “medium energy.” A dog with medium energy loves naps just as much as they love to play.
Frenchies make great lap dogs. Depending on the individual dog, you could have one that prefers cuddles to runs. This variety of character means, while a Frenchie enjoys the company of kids and could play forever, it’ll also make a great companion for an older person.
A Frenchie will happily sleep on your lap for hours. They’re the perfect size!
